About the job role

As a Backend Engineering Intern at Atlan you’ll learn from experienced engineers, get close to customer needs and market dynamics, and build AI native systems where AI is a core part of the product and user experience.

You will contribute to our app framework that lets developers build on Atlan, develop high-performance connectors across the modern data ecosystem, strengthen our core Metastore and next-generation Metadata Lakehouse built on Apache Iceberg, or tackle platform and infrastructure work such as service isolation, operator rollouts, backups, observability, and automated maintenance.

2. Get a chance to build AI-native systems and experiences — leveraging AI not just as a feature, but as a core part of how our product works and how users interact with it.
3. As a Backend Engineering Intern, you’ll get the opportunity to work on one (or more) of these focus areas:
   1. App Framework – Contribute to Atlan’s latest app framework, enabling developers to build powerful, scalable apps directly on top of Atlan’s platform, accelerating how customers extend and customize Atlan.
   2. Connector Development – Build and scale the connectors that expand Atlan’s reach across the modern data ecosystem, deepening integrations, boosting performance, and enabling seamless data flow between systems.
   3. Metastore – Contribute to one of Atlan’s most critical microservices: our Metastore, a metadata management system that houses all the metadata ingested into Atlan. It powers both our platform and product, serving as the backbone for how teams discover, govern, and collaborate on Atlan.
   4. Metadata Lakehouse – Help build Atlan’s next-generation metastore, designed for the future. The Metadata Lakehouse brings modern data lake/warehouse architectures, Apache Iceberg, and high-performance metadata systems together to scale with the evolving needs of data and AI teams.
   5. Platform & Infrastructure – Work on the foundation that keeps Atlan running smoothly, including our Metastore and Metadata Lakehouse infrastructure. Tackle challenges like service isolation, operator rollouts, backup systems, observability, and automated maintenance workflows to ensure our platform is reliable, scalable, and resilient.

🖥️ Program Details

1. Onboarding Week (In-Person): Week of January 5, 2026 (or before).
   Location: Delhi or Bangalore (to be confirmed closer to the date).
2. Covered Expenses: Atlan will cover your stay and travel expenses for the onboarding week.
3. Internship Duration: 6 months (paid, full-time).
4. Work Mode: Fully remote after the onboarding week—work from anywhere!
5. Future Opportunities: Potential to transition into a full-time role at Atlan.

🎓Eligibility Criteria

1. Students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in India who can commit to full-time internship.
2. Major or concentration in Computer Science or a closely related field.
3. You must commit for the one-week in-person onboarding and 6 months of fully remote full-time internship.
4. Demonstrate dedication to the internship.
5. Show passion and drive to succeed in the tech industry (assessed via application questions and program interviews).
