Hey everyone! It’s me again with another phone review. This time, I’m exploring the Vivo V90. I’ll share my first impressions and what I’ve found after a few days of use. Get ready as we cover the unboxing, camera performance, battery life, gaming, and more! I also want to hear from you. What questions do you have about the Vivo V90? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll answer them in my long-term review.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The unboxing experience is pretty standard. You get the phone, a protective cover, the charger, and its cable. Right off the bat, it’s clear that Vivo is prioritizing the camera with this phone.

Camera: A Portrait Powerhouse

  • Styled Portrait Modes: The V90 has various styled portrait modes, like Vspeed Suner, Biotar, and Cinematic Cine Flair. These filters give your portraits a professional look, as if taken with a high-end camera.

  • Zeiss Multifocal Lenses: The inclusion of Zeiss lenses is a huge plus. You have options for 1x (24mm), 1.5x (35mm), and 2x (50mm). This gives you more flexibility and creativity for various shooting scenarios. I found that this setup delivered excellent results in my initial tests.

  • Wedding Style Filters: For special occasions, the V90 offers wedding-style filters. These filters add elegance and romance to your photos. I was really impressed with their quality.

  • Ultrawide Lens: The ultrawide lens is ideal for large groups or wide landscapes. The difference between normal mode and ultrawide is clear. It lets you fit much more into the frame.

  • Front Camera: The front camera also boasts a 2x zoom option for detailed close-ups. The portrait mode on the selfie camera gave great results in my first tests.

  • 4K Video Recording: 4K video at 30 frames per second can be captured by both the front and back cameras. This is a wonderful function since many other manufacturers only record in 1080p.

  • Aura Light: This feature is very useful in tough lighting, like at parties. It changes the colour temperature to balance red and blue light. This results in more natural-looking skin tones. You can keep it on Auto or adjust the colour and brightness yourself. I think this feature really improves low-light photos.

Design and Build: Slim and Stylish

  • Glass Back Finish (with a Catch): My blue variant has a stunning glass back finish. It gives a premium look and feel. It reminds me of the depth and shimmer of a galaxy. But it does attract fingerprints, so I recommend using the included case.

  • Slim Profile: The Vivo V90 is just 7.6mm thick. This makes it one of the slimmest phones with a 6000mAh battery. I believe it’s the slimmest phone with this battery size in India.

  • Plastic Frame: The back is glass, but the side frame is plastic. This isn’t a deal-breaker, but it’s good to know.

  • Other Features: The Vivo V90 includes three microphones. It supports dual SIM and has IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. It also has AG glass certification, which boosts its durability.

Performance: Power and Efficiency

  • Dimensity 9200 Processor: It’s a strong processor. It achieved above 810,000 on the AnTuTu benchmark in my tests. For both demanding applications and daily duties, it provides smooth performance.

  • RAM and Storage: For smooth operation, the phone includes UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR4x RAM.

  • No Throttling: My CPU tests showed no performance drop when under heavy load. This is a good indication of efficient thermal management.

  • Geekbench Scores: The Geekbench scores further confirm the V90’s powerful performance capabilities. I’ll share the exact numbers in my long-term review.

Battery: Long-Lasting Powerhouse

  • 6000mAh Battery: The large 6000mAh battery lasts a full day, even with heavy use. With moderate use, I expect it to last for over a day and a half. I’ll provide detailed Screen-On-Time (SOT) data in my long-term review.

  • 90W Flash Charging: The 90W charger can charge the phone to 50% in about 30-35 minutes. It takes around 50 minutes to reach a full charge. This is incredibly fast and convenient for those on the go.

Gaming: Smooth and Responsive

  • Smooth 60fps Gaming: I tested BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India). It ran smoothly at 60fps in both TDM and event modes.

  • Gaming Modes: The Vivo V90 has features designed for gaming. It includes 4D game vibration and frame rate priority. These enhance the gaming experience overall.

  • 300Hz Touch Sampling Rate: This high rate makes the phone super responsive. That’s key for competitive gaming.

Connectivity and Other Features

  • 5G Connectivity: The Vivo V90 supports 9 5G bands and offers 5G+5G dual standby. My testing on the Jio network showed excellent 5G performance.

  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Enjoy Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3. It offers dual-band Wi-Fi for quick and dependable connections.

  • PWM Dimming: The Vivo V90 has 2160Hz PWM dimming at high refresh rates. It also offers a remarkable 3840Hz PWM dimming at 60Hz. This high-frequency dimming reduces eye strain, especially in low-light conditions.

  • Display Brightness: The display hits a peak brightness of 1300 nits. This makes it easy to see outdoors, even in bright sunlight. I tested the HBM (High Brightness Mode). It reached an impressive brightness level.

  • Software: The phone runs on Android 13 with Vivo’s custom UI. The UI is smooth and responsive, with fast animations.

  • AI Features: Vivo has introduced new AI features. These include Circle for search, AI screen translation, and AI Eraser 2.0. These enhance the phone’s overall functionality.

  • Bloatware: Some apps are pre-installed. You can uninstall them or turn off notifications. This is a positive step towards a cleaner software experience.

Pricing and Availability

The Vivo V90 comes in three variants:

  • Starting Variant: ₹32,999

Final Thoughts (So Far)

I have nothing but good things to say about the Vivo V90 so far. It combines powerful performance, a fantastic camera system, extended battery life, and a thin, elegant design. The phone’s fast response time and the camera’s portrait capabilities particularly excite me.
