3. Differential Backup

5. Full PC Backup or Full Computer Backup

Full PC backup refers to the process of backing up the complete image of a computer’s hard disc, rather than just individual files and folders. A drive image is similar to a snapshot of a hard disc drive. It can be compressed or uncompressed and stored anywhere.

If we’re talking about other file backups, only the user’s documents, images, videos, and audio files can be restored, but the operating system, programs, and so on must be reinstalled from source download or disc media a second time.

However, if you have a full PC backup, you can entirely restore the hard drives in their original state provided you have a backup. So we can recover documents, photos, videos, and audio files, as well as the operating system, hardware drivers, system files, registry, applications, and emails, from this location.

  • Since the backup is stored very close here, it does not provide good protection against theft, fire, flood, earthquakes and other natural disasters. Therefore, whenever there is damage to the source, there is a good chance that the backup also gets damaged.

7. Online Backup

A backup that is done in a storage media that is always connected to the source is known as an online backup. The term “online” refers to a storage device or facility that is constantly connected.

This sort of storage medium and facility is always offsite, and it is connected to the backup source via an Internet connection. There are no human hands left to undertake any work using storage media.

Many commercial data centers now provide similar subscription services to their customers. The majority of storage data centers are located far from their secure locations, yet they are all connected via the internet.

On the source computer that will be backed up, a client application is installed. Users must first specify the folders and files they want to backup before the backup process can begin. The first data is compressed and encrypted before being sent over the Internet to the storage data center.

The storage facility in this case is a commercial data center located far from the source machine. Typically, they are built to withstand natural disasters such as fire and earthquakes.

  • The danger of data loss is relatively low because the data is replicated across multiple storage media.

  • Initial and first backups are extremely slow, taking many days to complete depending on your internet connection and the amount of data to be backed up.

8. Cloud Backup

We can use the term “cloud backup” in place of “online backup” and “remote backup.” The data is backed up in a storage server or facility that is connected to the internet in this sort of backup.

These backups can also be safely accessed from any computer using valid login credentials; however, a decent internet connection is required for this. The term “cloud” refers to a backup storage facility that is accessible via the Internet.

Examples of Cloud Backup

  • Backup to an external FTP server through the Internet


  • It provides good protection against fire, floods, earthquakes, and other natural catastrophes because it is an offsite backup.
